Super Bowl LIV Champions – The New England Patriots

It pains me to say this, but the Patriots might not lose a game this year. I’ll come back to that, but first; let’s jump around the league to review some Week 1 action on Sunday. I’ll rattle off a few one-liners here.

The Browns can’t handle the hype.

Lamar Jackson can throw?

Christian McCaffrey was responsible for ~100% of Carolina’s offense.

The Bills are back.

The Cowboys won a game that literally every single person expected them to win.

A tie???

There is no way the Dolphins win 3 games this year.

That was fun. I don’t think anything too out of the ordinary happened in yesterday’s slate of games. We at the Crisp household watched a tough battle between the Rams and Panthers for the 1:00 game. If DJ Moore fumbles one more time in the open field……It was bad enough having to relive those same type of fumbles from last season while watching Amazon’s All or Nothing. It wasn’t the best game I’ve seen from either team, but one the Panther’s needed badly to set the tone for the season. Let’s hope we can get this train moving in the right direction on Thursday night against the Bucs. Check in Wednesday for everything you need to know about that NFC South bloodbath.

The 4:00 slot brought the Giants and the Cowboys to the television. I figured Dallas would walk away with the W here, but how they got there was a bit of a surprise. Dak actually made some nice throws, the receivers were running great routes, and Randall Cobb has found new life. Yes, Jason Witten scored a TD and that last sentence would have worked better with his name. The age and coming out of retirement and all that. I refuse to use backspace. I saw something that I have never seen before in a Giants game, although I can admit I rarely watch them. Eli Manning slipped a tackle. I couldn’t believe it. The man feels threatened with Daniel Jones on the doorstep, and Eli’s compete level, drive, and championship level hunger to carry the team on his back helped him avoid that one attempt at a shoestring sack. Amazing stuff. Cowboys dominated, but small wins where you can get em.

Here is the headline story – buried way down at the bottom of the post. I have led you with breadcrumbs to the table of plenty. The Patriots cannot be stopped, and there is nothing anyone not named Bill Belichick can do about it. The beatdown on the Steelers was merciless. TB12 brought his weekly bag of dimes to dispense to his teammates, and the game was never really close. In fact, I was pretty tired last night from excitement in the daylight hours, and had I known that 33-3 would be the final score, I would have gone to bed much earlier.

The real problem is going to be when the Patriots get all their new weapons in house. And yes, I said weapons plural. The Pats signed AB, which may or may not have been first reported/speculated on this website. We all know how that’s going to go. Best receiver in the league, Tom gets a 7-year extension, the Super Bowl is guaranteed, all that stuff. The problem is, they are already a really good, I mean really good offense. Now they plan to add one more elite receiver (please don’t forget about Edelman). But the straw that will break the league’s back is…the return of Robert James Gronkowski. This is not a joke. He will be back by December and the spread will never see the single digits again. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be a Boston sports fan. Your banners and your parades, and your rings…and your…you win too much.

Monday Night Football

I’m taking the Saints over the Texans, and the Broncos over the Raiders. The Raiders will either come out with the spirit of Jon Gruden in their sails to course correct and get on with good football, or Carr will throw 3 INTs in the first half and this thing will be over before it started. I’m hoping they do well. That AB thing man. I gotta stop talking about that.

Stay crispy friends!
