Time to Right the Ship

Everyone takes a loss every now and then. Some teams are destined to lose every single game, and make no effort whatsoever to hide the fact that they are tanking (see Miami and Cincinnati).  Some teams seem to lose more often than the teams that literally never win (see Atlanta). I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again – the Falcons are in my division. I should want them to lose. But they are absolutely killing me in the pick department.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, you can’t get fooled again!
— President George W. Bush

So here I am – once a fool, but a fool no longer. I had a rough week in the Week 4 picks department with a poor showing at 7-9. I’m not even breaking down the categories this week, because it was all terrible and I don’t want to relive it. Live, learn, and let’s get this thing back on the right track.

A quick note for those of you Sherlock Holmes level analyzers out there – yes, this is coming out on a Thursday. My schedule this week forces it to be this way.  I might need to watch a Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson motivational video on YouTube and learn to take control of my time instead of being controlled. I might just be on vacation and decided to make one big post for Thursday. You decide. Either way, you’re probably right. Today’s post will be a Thursday night preview and the picks for Sunday. Much value. Such wow.

Thursday Night Football – Rams @ Seahawks

The Rams are coming off a beat down on their home turf. Here comes a road matchup within the division and in a hostile environment. Seattle is looking to copy Tampa’s formula, and I would expect Russell Wilson to be up to the task. Rumor has it, Wilson has been studying so much film Jameis Winston from last week that he is allegedly walking around the facilities telling himself, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to play quarterback, and he’ll eat crab the rest of his life.” Quite the method actor that Wilson is.

Pick: Seahawks -1.5 and OVER 49.5

Reading Comprehension Quiz time – Please select one answer from the list below.

Earlier in the post, Ben said he was going to give you the normal Thursday section as well as:

a)    A 20% off coupon code for your next purchase from his merch collection

b)   Sunday’s picks

c)    A life-time alibi for never having to read the blog again because you’re tired of it

Answer:

If you guessed “a” please let me know. I appreciate your interest and will try to have some sweet merch available soon.

If you guessed “c”………wow……..just…tell me you don’t like it very much…geez.

If you guessed “b” you are correct. You can redeem your prize at your local Olive Garden in the form of breadsticks. They are not free. I had to call and special request this deal – just for you.

Sunday 1:00

Cardinals @ Bengals

Someone in Vegas is asleep at the wheel. This line does not seem to make sense to me. I guess they are giving the Bengals home field advantage??? Regardless – give me the state bird of NC just relocated to the West Coast.

Pick: Cards +3.5

Falcons @ Texans

See above. I don’t care if Atlanta was playing your dad’s high school team. I’m done picking them.

Pick: Texans -5

Ravens @ Steelers

Pittsburgh put up some points last week, but it was against the Bengals, so I discredit that. The Ravens are looking for a bounce-back game, and will go to battle against a division opponent for the second week in a row. You can’t feel good about your playoff hopes if you keep losing to division opponents. Chalk this one up as a not-must-win but really-really-need-to-win game for the Ravens.

Pick: Ravens -3.5

Bears @ Raiders

The Bears are traveling west and looking to ride the surge of the gunslinger, or at least the guy that can make the offense kinda move, Chase Daniel. The Raiders are week to week, but have to be feeling good after last week’s showing in Indy. I can’t take a side though, because who knows what’s really in store for a Khalil Mack revenge game.

Pick: OVER 40.5

Jaguars @ Panthers

The battle of the jungle cats. The 1995 Expansion Team bowl. The Jags have found a spark in their new offense, but the Panthers defense is playing out of their minds at the moment. If Kyle Allen can get rid of the ball in the direction of a receiver and not backwards towards the ground, Carolina has a really good chance to make it three in a row.

Pick: Panthers -3.5

Vikings @ Giants

There’s trouble and paradise between Kirk Cousins and his receivers. No Kirk, they do not like that. Daniel Jones wants to keep the home fans entertained, so the guy that dresses pre-game like an intern from Wall Street will keep this one close.

Pick: Giants +5.5

Patriots @ Redskins

They should flex this game to Saturday morning before the college slate.

Pick: Patriots -15

Jets @ Eagles

This one too.

Pick: Eagles -13.5

Buccaneers @ Saints

There is pretty good Jameis, and there is wildly terrible Jameis. I think we get another dose of the good this week. The Bucs are sneaky good.

Pick: Bucs ML +160

4:05

Broncos @ Chargers

There is something I don’t like about this game. My gut says take the Chargers, but a lot could go wrong with the pending Melvin Gordon return. Flacco might find a way to average his way to a victory, but the Denver D just took a nasty blow with Bradley Chubb out for the season with an ACL tear. Plus, Broncos coach Vic Fangio has to know he’s coaching for his job this week.

Pick: UNDER 44.5

4:25

Packers @ Cowboys

Jerry won’t stand for back-to-back losses. The boys will be ready to go in this one.

Pick: Cowboys -3

8:20

Colts @ Chiefs

Kansas City went indoors last week in Detroit and couldn’t cover the spread. Now an indoor team is coming outside to KC, and the points will be a plenty.

Pick: OVER 57

I feel like every time I mention the temperature in NC, it goes up the next week. I did take a peek at the forecast, and it does seem we have some cooler, crispier weather on the way. I sure hope so anyway. Those quarterzips aren’t gonna wear themselves. I hope you all have a great weekend.

Stay Crispy friends!!
